Floaty dreamy space chick
Laundering her rent check
Ashes ashes she all fall down
Criminally abject
Give her room sheÕll eject
Ashes ashes she all fall down

On the surface of the ground
Which is made of sand
Raked for butts and glass
By the clean up man
All the toys are found
Redistributed around
And sheÕll only climb the slide
On days it burns her to slide down

So while sheÕs following the hairstyle
Covets all the big trials
Ashes ashes she all falls down
As her skirty flappy dreds twist
She says kiss and be kissed
Ashes ashes she all falls down

On the dirty rotten ground
Where the sand is wet
But the kids havenÕt pissed
In the corners yet
Is it that time of day
When the babies cry
Or can she slide on down the slide
And leave her skin to fry?

How long can you play?

She swore sheÕd never be mean no more
She swore sheÕd always be nicer
But every time sheÕd cut her hair sheÕd swear,
ÒIÕm not strong, IÕm not strongÉÓ

Her friends were sure sheÕd used a lure
TheyÕd tour and then theyÕd see her
A different head of hair theyÕd swear sheÕd swear,
ÒIÕm not strong, IÕm not strongÉÓ

She felt that someone, she wasnÕt naming who
Had stolen her strength away
The act of cutting, it seemed the thing to do
And then sheÕd sweep it all away

She looked her best, now make a guess,
Could you look and never see her?
It was her style to hold a smile awhile and say,
ÒIÕm not strong, IÕm not strongÉÓ

And where did she lay the blame?
Yeah, who did she lay the blame on?
Where did she lay the blame
For not being strong?

Ordinary Life

I seen the hills outside Salinas California
And they were rolling amber waves of grain,
Perfectly round, perfectly still like a body in sleep
Except for a cow or maybe a tree on top of the hill
All knarly and free.

It was one of those moments
That IÕve been waiting for.
One of those moments
Well worth waiting for
Through years of blindness and despairÉ

At a bus stop in Madison Wisconsin
A certainty occurred to me:
Each of us dies, no one is spared, not even the young,
In spite of their hopes, their loves or their lies,
It makes living life
So simples and free

It was one of those moments
That IÕve been waiting for,
One of those moments
Well worth waiting for
Through years of blindness and despairÉ

See, mineÕs an ordinary life.
Others can see so much farther than me,
IÕve always known thatÕs true.
But every now and then
Something real shines throughÉ

Dormant

Sitting in a little room
Late mid-winter afternoon
Breathing out and breathing inÉ
One two three
Thinking only tiny things
Like what sitting quiet brings
Just to watch the mind askew
Dormant
What if I was to bring the sleeping body into spring?
And what if I had said to you the way it turns from red to blue?
And what if I had thought to show something only I should know?
The lover is a writer first
Only drinking now from thirst
Breathing deep as it can goÉ
One two three
